How to Merge or Unmerge Cells in MS-Excel – 2022

Merging cells is the process of combining more cells into one cell. Similarly, dividing a cell into multiple cells is called unmerge cells.

1. Merge & Center:

Combining more cells into one cell and centring the text is called the Merge & Centre.

  1. Go to the Home tab
  2. Select the range of cells and enter the text that you want to merge and center the text
  3. Then click on the drop-down arrow of the Merge and Center
  4. Afterwards, select Merge and Center in the Alignment group

5. Look at the 5th step of a picture below, in which the cells are merged and the text centred.

2. Merge Across:

Merging cells by combining Vertical lines and leaving horizontal lines to merge across the selected cells.

  1. Select the range of cells that you want to merge across
  2. Then go to the Home tab
  3. After that, click the drop-down arrow, which appears at the right of Merge & Center In the Alignments group.
  4. And then select Merge Across

3. Merge Cells:

 Divide a cell into multiple cells which were merged, called Unmerge Cell.

  1. Select the range of cells that you want
  2. On the Home tab, in the Alignments group, click the Drop-down arrow which appears at the right of Merge & Center and then select Unmerge Cells.
