The Font group includes various commands such as a Font, Font Size, Grow Font, Shrink Font, Clear Formatting, Bold, Italic, Underline, Strike Through, Subscript, Superscript, Change Case, Text highlight Color and Font Color. These are discussed below.

Font (Font Family) in Formatting the Text:

Font or Font Family is the first command in the Font group, used to change the selected font style/face you want. The default font in word is Calibri and size is 11.

Font Size (Increase or Decrease):

Font size is the second command in the font group, used to change the selected font size you want by increasing or decreasing. The default font size in word  size is 11. Keyboard Shortcuts are given below.

Shortcut Keys for Increasing or Decreasing the Font Size:

  • Ctrl + Shift + >          →  To increase the selected font size (2 or more than 2 points)
  • Ctrl + Shift + <          →  To Decrease the selected font size (2 or more than 2 points) 
  • Ctrl + }]                      →  To increase the selected font size (1 point)
  • Ctrl + {[                      →  To increase the selected font size (1 point).

Decrease/Shrink Font Size:

Change case:

Change the selected text to Sentence Case, Lower Case, Upper Case, Toggle Case and Capitalize Each Word.

Text Highlight Color to Format the Font

It highlights the selected text with color. To do so, select the font /text that you want to increase highlight → Then click the drop-down arrow of the text highlight color to expand the numbers → Now select one of the colors you want.

Text Effects and Typography:

Change the text in different colors where it is selected

Clear Formatting:

In this, you can add different effects and character spacing to the font in addition to the Font group.

Steps to follow in Formatting the Text:

  1. Go to the Home tab
  2. Type or keep some text you want 
  3. Then select the text you want to apply the formatting
